When we look back to the bygone lanes of the past of West Africa, a dust of storm is seen from the distance of even miles and the sandy storms make and deviate the ways to travel. The caravans are walking with the knells in the necks of their herds which echo in the deep silence of night. Animals with their master are following one another in the long journey on sand. The night is full of perils. The fear of darkness, theft, onslaughts by any wild or desert animal are also walking with the caravan. But the master of the herd is satisfied and easy as Azawakh is accompanying the whole team. The journey is safe and sound because the guard is securing and guaranteeing the safety of all night travelers. Tall in height and smart and alert in its physique, Azawakh can see and sense the danger even from a distance. Azawakh, the dog of the desert, has won popularity around the globe because of its marvelous features and qualities.
Known as sight hound
Generally Azawakh is known as the sight hound used to hunt in the wide stretches of deserts where it can see the animals from a long distance. The nomads of the Nigeria, Tuareg in the Sub-Sahelian Desert used to keep it with them for hunting. Due to its long and rangy body, it was best fitted into the role of a hunter. Companion dog
Besides hunting animals for the master, Azawakh has been with the nomads of Southern Sahara as companion dog. It was their family member who accompanied them through every kith and kin.
