The olfactory membranes of some of hounds are 150 square centimeter space of smelling while human beings have three square centimetres of olfactory membrane.

Dogs can distinguish the smells ofdifferent things and beings at one time. They can also remember these smells.

The number of smelling olfactory membranes vary in different dog breeds which means their smelling powers also vary. Dog breeds working in police and army have more membranes than those which are non-military dogs.
